Hand-rubbed Oil Finish
All of the furniture has a hand-rubbed oil finish. The finishing process is as follows:

  • Step 1 - A tung oil is sprayed onto each piece, then wiped off--we allow this process to set for one hour.
  • Step 2 - A cloth is hand-dipped in the tung oil and applied to each piece of furniture and again this is allowed to set for another hour.
  • Step 3 - A boiled linseed oil is then sprayed on--this is done to seal the wood, preventing water spotting, due to condensation from beverage glasses or coffee cup rings, and other items that would leave a mark on the wood.
  • Step 4 - The furniture is then final sanded with 320 grit sand paper, and a Lemon Oil Bees Wax finish is hand-rubbed into the wood.

The most unique feature about the oil finish is that it is very easy to repair. Should a dent or a scratch occur, simply use a damp cloth and apply it to the damaged area, then place a hot iron on top of the cloth and that will steam the affected area. This procedure will expand the wood and allow you to sand lightly, with the grain of the wood, using a 320 grade sand paper. Then reapply the oil to the repaired surface and it will be as good as new.

To maintain the oil finish, we recommend oiling the furniture approximately twice a year on the outside. As the piece matures, the oil finish will allow the furniture to age and build the beauty and Patina of the wood.
